Revisit

Maybe a month has gone by since I killed my first buck. I have had some time to think and contemplate. Somethings ended up different than I expected.

1. I am enamored with the skull. Never thought of putting stock in a trophy. I like the Euro mount skull I did. It took a bit of work. Not quite set up for it but not too bad. A few nights worth of cleaning and boiling and it’s done. But it’s not even the skull. I would definatly consider a taxidermy head next time. No the wife does not approve. Not remotely.

2 the meat is amazing. A few years ago I was gifted some venison from a friend. Cooked rare it was good but anything past that it was pretty strong. It tasted like venison no question. This tastes like the cleanest beef. Or meat. It just tastes good. I have made many dishes, so far my favorite has been slow cooked neck done like Carnitas.

3. The wife is not even pretending to play along. She has no interest in hearing about the hunt or my thoughts on hunting. The skull lives at my moms house for now.

4. I am getting a rifle. Probably a .270 or a .308.
